School Life
Eco-Council
As we live out our Catholic Social Teaching principal of Stewardship, Laleham Lea has been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag with ‘distinction’ for two consecutive years which demonstrates that we go above and beyond to improve the local community and protect our planet.
The Eco-Schools programme was established in 1994 and is now delivered in more than 70
countries across the globe.
Laleham Lea’s Eco-Committee, comprised of students from all age groups from Nursery to Year 6, first formed in September 2022 then conducted an environmental review assessing how eco-friendly the school was. They reviewed everything from biodiversity within the school grounds to how pupils and staff members travel to school.
Building on their findings, pupils then planned a year of action designed to advance our school’s green credentials, improve their local environment, and protect our planet.
The Eco-Committee planned a variety of projects including an ‘Eco-Day’ which saw students across the school litter picking, making recycled bird feeders, tidying the school’s herb garden and planting new herbs and seeds and investigating bugs in the ‘Bug Hotel’.
This year’s Eco-Committee has now been elected – watch this space for their plans for this year!
